Hump Day.....News & Views

If it's Wednesday.......It must be "Hump Day".

And if it's "Hump Day".......

We have a few views........on the news.

Is this Magic?   Or ....Are the Celtics for real?

It's only "pot" ....Why all the fuss?   Seriously....we never heard of this guy....until today:
Knicks' Chandler ticketed for pot
NEW YORK, May 19 (UPI) -- The New York Knicks' Wilson Chandler was ticketed for allegedly holding a small amount of pot after being pulled over in a traffic stop, police said Wednesday. The New York Post reports the 23-year-old forward was given a desk appearance ticket for the misdemeanor charge after police searched his car in the Queens borough Tuesday night. The search took place after officers allegedly smelled marijuana coming from Chandler's Mercedes Benz, the newspaper said.

The Braves......finally beat the Mets:
ATLANTA, May 18 (UPI) -- Pinch-runner Brent Clevlen scored the game-winning run on David Wright's throwing error Tuesday, giving the Atlanta Braves a 3-2 win over the New York Mets.

Draft Lottery 2010:
NEW YORK, May 19 (UPI) -- The Washington Wizards won the top selection in the 2010 NBA Draft and are expected to take Kentucky freshman John Wall or Ohio State's Evan Turner.

Old white men...& Corvettes....&  ex-NASCAR driver......don't mix:
SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., May 19 (UPI) -- Former professional race car driver James Neal has pleaded guilty to reckless driving for leading police on a 140 mph chase in California, authorities say.

Congrats.....Uconn women:

President Obama welcomes the 2010 NCAA champion University of Connecticut women's basketball team in Washington DC.

Things ....We Learned......From the Week-end

Mondays.......The first day of the work week.  The day which sets the tone for the entire week.   The beginning...

And so with Monday......we reflect upon the week-end .....that was.

Things we learned:

I ....still....hate....Daylight Savings Time.

Alright.....already....it's March 15th.......and it still feels like winter.

The Boston Celtics.......looked mighty old ...against Cleveland.

The Orlando Magic......finally lost a game.

NASCAR......took the week off.....Why?

The Dallas Mavs......lost to the NY Knicks by 20 points....Last month,  they beat those same Knicks.....by 50.....go figure.

March Madness......is finally here....as in the NCAA basketball tourney....Interested?

Did we.......really learn anything.....from this week-end?

Revenge.......At 195 mph

This .......could have been ....really bad.

But .......this is NASCAR......and the cars are the safest....they've ever been.....and this guy literally walks away.

Hump Day.....News & Views

The last......."Hump Day"......of 2009.

Do you realize......tomorrow will represent ......an end of a decade?

Stuff........we're following....courtesy of TMZ.com:

Happy 34th Birthday, Tiger Woods!

What do you get the man who had everything?

Power Hour on Dale Earnhardt Jr.!

Dale Earnhardt Jr.Dale Earnhardt Jr. was in one hell of a giving mood last night -- dude bought drinks for more than 800 people who walked into his North Carolina bar.

It all went down at the Whisky River bar in Charlotte -- which is owned by the NASCAR stud. We're told Dale decided to pick up the tab for every drink ordered in his place between 8-9pm.

Bartender Shawn Southern -- who was also on VH1's "Tool Academy" -- says the bill was "a ridiculous amount of money" ... but Dale made sure to treat the staff to a "very generous" tip.

And then...there are the Atlanta Hawks...... something went wrong.......in that 4th quarter:

Give this 'D' an 'A' -- Cleveland Cavaliers keep rolling with a near-shutout of Atlanta in fourth quarter, 96-85

Cleveland Cavaliers beat Atlanta Hawks, 95-84

By Brian Windhorst

December 29, 2009, 11:07PM
Playing rough and often disjointed, the Cavs put on their favorite kind of edgy defensive display in crunch time, overwhelming the Atlanta Hawks for another impressive road victory. Full story »

Things.....We Learned.......From the Week-end...

MLB Umpires.....are the most sensitive people.....On the planet!

ESPN - Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino was ejected from the outfield in the top of the seventh inning on Sunday.

Victorino threw his arms up after a pitch by Rodrigo Lopez to Florida's Wes Helms was called a ball.

Home plate umpire Ed Rapuano promptly tossed him. Victorino ran in from center, but was restrained by teammates.

Are you kidding me? 50,000 screaming fans.......a batter in the box........both dugouts yelling....and this umpire sees the center fielder..........raise his arms in discuss........and tosses him from the game?

Hey ........Ump.......try paying more attention to that strike zone.......and not a guy 300 yards away. Whatever made these guys think they are the kings on the diamond? There has never.....and will never .....ever be a ticket to a major league game.....sold.......because.......of the umpires.

Wear your blue.......call strikes and balls........safes and outs.....fairs and fouls.....and then....just go........preferably..... away..........and preferably........quietly.

Maybe..........Junior........is .......just not....that good!

Dale Earnhardt ....... (rest his soul) was a great race car driver....."The Intimidator".....fearless........driven.....NASCAR fans most popular guy. Dale, Sr. has passed on . And the the NASCAR gods named his son, Dale Earnhardt, Jr as the heir apparrent to the racing throne.

And while Dale Jr. remains NASCAR's most popular driver to date...........We here at 5 on Five.....beg to ask.......why? No wins this year...... one in 2008.......none in 2007..........and one each in 2006 and 2005. Not since 2004.......has Jr. won more than once (6 times in that 2004 season) while still racing with DEI (Dale Earnhardt, Inc.).

Since then.......Dale has had a falling out with his step-mom.......Left DEI........fired a crew chief....and still has trouble finishing in the top ten.

Today at the Watkins Glen road race.....his breaks locked up......at other races this year, he's blown engines.......over run pit stops.......destroyed tires.......and all the while.....rarely competing for the wins.

Maybe........Dale, Jr.......is just not that good of a driver..........bad luck is one thing........and bad driving is another.

As equal as all these NASCAR cars are..........it is the driver ....that makes the difference.

And it's becoming very clear........there is a distinque differerence........between Dale, Sr. .......and Dale, Jr.

Some stuff.......we're thinking.....

My beloved
Atlanta braves took 3 out of 4 from the L A Dodgers.......should have swept...

Michael Vick..........remains .....unsigned....surprised? We're not.

In Georgia this weekend.......two teens were playing with a gun....they thought was not loaded..... Guess what happened?

We love you, President Obama....we voted for you.......but please, take a deep breath....take two steps backward........and chill.... you cannot solve all this country's and the free world's problems in six months.

I finally cut our grass Saturday........I started at 8:30 in the morning.....and was done by 11:00........Caution though.......the mower does not respond nicely .......to wet grass.

Finally......Here's to my parents.......and their 54th wedding anniversary.......

Finally, finally........54 years?????

54 years............a half a century..........plus four.......54 years......two scores, a decade, and another four years.

54 years...........that's 648 months...........19,710 days............waking up .....with the same person.........

Everyday.

Wow!

Have a great Monday......

NASCAR........Goes Hollywood.......Sort of.....

We very, rarely get into the NASCAR scene......but.........

Recent events surrounding one of their drivers .....you know.........drugs.......suspensions.......appeals.......allegations.......family feuds........have gotten us to pay heed.

We present.......the Jeremy Mayfield Saga: (Courtesy of the NASCAR Nation Union web site)

5/9/2009: Jeremy Mayfield tests positive for something just minutes before the Southern 500. NASCAR has not revealed the substance, but all we know is that he is suspended indefinitely, and the only way back is rehab.

Week of 5/11/2009 to 5/15/2009: Mayfield claims that Claritan D is the drug responsible for his positive test. Dr. David Black of Aegis Science Corporation, the company responsible for all NASCAR drug tests, calls bull**** on that claim.

5/29/2009: One week after quite possibly the worst Memorial Day weekend in auto racing EVER, Mayfield decided to use the Glenn Dunnaway* method and sue NASCAR for his reinstatement. Mecklenberg County would host, but NASCAR requested it to move it to federal court a few days later. Request granted. The trial is set for July 1st.

5/29/2009: That same date, the drugs are revealed. Well, two of three. Claritan-D (duh), and Adderall.

6/5/2009: NASCAR countersued Mayfield for $150K, citing that he willfully violated the drug policy, breach of contract, defrauding competitor's earnings, and pissing off fans who don't know who to believe.

6/9/2009: ESPN's Ryan McGee confirmed with two independent sources that the drug Mayfield took is methamphetamine.

6/10/2009: I believed that some drugs, including Adderall, the drug Mayfield took, can produce false positives, and I was with Mayfield...for ten minutes. He claimed that the fumes suffered from a Talladega wreck back in April caused meth-like substances in his body. If the engine were to blow up right in front of my face on my way to a lab to get drug tested for a job, I would have failed already according to his logic. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

6/16/2009: NASCAR released a statement saying that an "expert" witness lied when asked about Mayfield's creditionals. Dr. Harvey MacFerenstein falsely represented himself on six counts on the May 29th hearing. NASCAR also said that Dr. MacFerenstein had no credentials to state that he is a doctor. WOOPS.

6/17/2009: On top of the drug lawsuit, Mayfield's suppliers, Triad Racing Technologies and BDR Acquisition, sues Mayfield for over $84K. Maybe he should have taken rehab after all at this point, huh?

6/18/2009: Dr. MacFerenstein says that he told Mayfield's attorney incorrect qualifications in an affidavit and John Buric (Mayfield's lawyer) assured him that they were correct. *sigh* Which is worse, Brett Favre's "retirement" plans or this?

UPDATE 7/1/09: Jeremy Mayfield won the temporary reinstatement so that he can race in NASCAR again.

UPDATE 7/2/09: Yet his car was not ready for Daytona.

UPDATE 7/9/09: And Chicagoland. Mayfield stated that he's not entering any races so he can focus to get a permanent reinstatement to NASCAR. Yeah, right.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnddddddddddddddddd.....NASCAR says that Mayfield tested positive for meth AGAIN and wants the judge to reverse the temporary reinstatement.

But.......it gets even better.....News that just hit today:

Now the "step-mom" speaks,

"I saw Jeremy using methamphetamine by snorting it up his nose at least 30 times during the seven years I was around him," she said.

Wow!!!!

Jeremys' response..........

“I don’t trust anything NASCAR does, anything Dr. David Black does, never have, never will,” Mayfield told The Associated Press in a phone interview. Black is the administrator for NASCAR’s drug-testing program. “And they picked the wrong woman to use against me because that (whore) is trash and has got nothing on me but lies.”

According to documents, Lisa Mayfield said she first saw the driver use meth in 1998 at a race shop in Mooresville, N.C. She said Mayfield cooked his own drugs until the ingredient pseudoephedrine was taken off the shelves and it became too difficult for Mayfield to obtain the ingredients. She said her stepson then began to purchase meth from others.

“Between 1998 and 2005, I am personally aware that Jeremy used methamphetamines often,” she said in her affidavit. “I was concerned about his heavy use and talked to his father about it. I saw Jeremy use methamphetamine by snorting it up his nose at least 30 times during the 7 years I was around him. Jeremy used methamphetamine not only in my presence, but also when we were both in the presence of others.”

Mayfield contested his stepmother’s account.

“She’s tried everything she can do to get money out of me. I won’t help her, so I guess she found a way to get money from NASCAR by giving them an affidavit full of lies,” he said.

Well........that's our NASCAR story.....and we're sticking with it.

A lot more entertaining than making 200 left turns.......in a 500 hundred mile race.

Things ....From the Week-end....Learned & More

Rain.....rain.......and more rain.......

In
this southern college town.....the rain has been constantly ......sporadic....... Rain, sun, rain....This has been going on for the past seven days. The garden is loving it........the lawn is almost all green now. And the drought we've suffered the past couple of years........seems a distant memory.

Memorial Day, 2009........

Did you pause.......at 3:00 pm? And remember all the men and women of the armed forces who paid the ultimate price ......with their lives?

NBA Play-offs........

Neither Cleveland nor Los Angeles appear to be a sure thing for the finals.....Denver and Orlando are making their own cases. Cleveland.......except for that miracle shot by LeBron....should be down 0-3...........And the Lakers? They looked slow and un-physical last night. Kobe and LeBron...........could use some help. Can you hear me .......now?

Braves sweep Toronto.......

Yes..........the Atlanta Braves swept the Toronto Blue Jays ..........3 games to none....Hitting.......scoring runs.......great pitching.......These Braves are only a game and a half out of first place..........Who would of "thunk" it!

Here come the Yankees........

Given up for dead a week ago........the Yanks reeled off 7 in a row........with A-Rod back.....and are now within a game of Boston for the lead in the AL East. Still.......the best team .......money can buy.

Which was better? The Indy 500......or the Coca-cola 600?

The Indy race........with 300,000 fans.......looked good on TV..........but still no drama.......At Charlotte, the Coca-cola 600 had the misfortune of "mother natures' " rain.......Both failed me. Just wasn't interested.......Also ........at the Coca-cola 600 ......on Sunday.......The "fly by" by the Navy's f-14's.......was a bit premature.......They flew by .......in the middle of the "National Anthem".......as opposed to flying by ..........at the end........which is what was planned.

All in all?

A great week-end..........even though the sports world......was a bit.....sub par. But I guess thats what friends and families are for.

In the Air........at Talladega

Sundays' Aaron 499 NASCAR race in Talladega, Alabama had a few wrecks.......but none compared to the one that happened on the final lap.....

Hump Day News & Views

Is is Wednesday?

Already?

Hump Day.....
is here again. So, we'll do what we do.......on Wednesday.....Let's have some fun and see what's going on in the sports world.......and beyond.

Five stories........Yahoo.com wants you to read:

Bulls' Rose to be Rookie of the Year (AP)

Roy's 42 power Trail Blazers by Rockets (AP

James and sloppy Cavs hold off Pistons (AP

Goodell: Vick must show genuine remorse (AP)

RCR to swap crews for Harvick, Mears (AP

Three stories from the NBA.......one from the NFL.....and one from NASCAR.....The most interesting is the Michael Vick saga. Will it ever end? The man has spent the last two years ....doing time.......prison. But ........the commissioner wants more.....he wants Vick to show ..."remorse"...........no......."genuine remorse".

Well........is this guy a mind reader......or what? Is he a psychiatrist? What ........exactly.....does Michael have to do? He has apologized..........he has lost millions of dollars........lost his following of fans.......paid his dept to society ........and now the "commish"....wants........"genuine remorse".

I must be stupid........I must not be a smart man.......but even I........simple and all.......can't seem to understand all of this.

My advice to Vick?

Hire a TV production crew...........get it on film......cry..........cry..... and cry some more. Look into the cameras..........and cry some more.....Tears........tears.......and more tears.....get some real live "close-ups"........those big brown eyes......blurred by water.....from tears.....sniffle a little.....look real sad.......

That should do it...........that's what he wants..... for you have now.....shown him ....."genuine remorse"...

With that.......

Have a great "Hump Day".......

Things We Learned .....from the Week-end

If this was NASCAR's "Super Bowl".......

The "good ole boys" left a lot to be desired. Yes, I have always been a stock car racing fan....but in recent years I just can't get excited about 200 left hand turns in a 500 mile race. Daytona was supposed to be different. But nowadays, all the cars look the same, perform the same, the drivers all talk the same, act the same.......boring, boring, boring.

The only highlight was a wreck.......which ironically took out the sports most famous driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (right)

And to make matters worse.......Sunday's running of the 51st Daytona 500 was shortened...due to rain. No exciting finish.......no drama.......just naming the winner (Matt Kenseth
), who happened to have the lead when the rains came, after only 152 laps.

Ho hum , Nascar..............

Eleven.....is enough........
0-11 in 2009.....0-11 in the last 11 meetin
gs against Florida.....

This is what faced Terrance Woodbury (below) and the University of Georgia mens basketball team as they prepared to face the Florida Gators (they of the back to back NCAA champions of a few years back.

Well........Saturday, these dawgs got a Valentine's Day gift......maybe from Sir Cupid himself. Georgia upset Florida, 88-86 to gain its first win in the SEC this season. This team..........in which the head coach, Dennis Felton was fired.........this team..........with absolutely no talent..........this team....played an inspired game.....hit clutch baskets.......and pulled off a win.

In this southern college town..........this win was just what the doctor ordered on a cold and rainy winter afternoon.

The Shaq and Kobe show........

Co-MVPs? Hugging and laughing? Could this really be Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal? At last nights NBA all-star game, there was this love-fest between the two. Almost to the point of nausea........I thought they hated each other.....It sure was more fun back then.

Speaking of the NBA.......and the all-star festivities ..........did anyone actually watch the H.O.R.S.E. competition?

Or the Slam Dunk?

Or the 3 point contest?

Or the game........itself?
