The SEC......Rules Again

No surprises..

The SEC is by far the best football conference in America.  More proof?  We give you the just concluded 2010 NFL draft:

All seven rounds of the 2010 NFL draft are in the books, and there is little doubt or suspense as to which conference caught the most pro eyes over the past three days.

Players from the SEC, winners of the last four BcS title games, were far and away the most popular throughout the selection process as 49 of the 255 players taken were from the league.

The Big 12, after a first-round tear saw them topping even the SEC with nine selections, slowed down significantly over the last six rounds and came in with 30 drafted players, good for only fourth amongst BcS conferences.

Next after the SEC?  The Big Ten with 34 and the ACC with 31, with the Pac-10 ending the festivities with 29.

Meanwhile, the Big East sucked some major hind teat with just 13 players taken the entire draft, and five of those came from one school -- South Florida.

Oregon Ducks QB Suspended for the Season

Jeremiah MasoliOregon Ducks quarterback Jeremiah Masoli probably thought pleading to second degree burglary would keep him from being suspended this season -- he was very, very wrong.

Masoli was suspended for the entire 2010 season, his head coach announced today, for his part in a frat house burglary.

He pled guilty today to second degree misdemeanor burglary and agreed to make restitution.

Masoli threw for 2,147 yards last season and rushed for another 814.

It's worth noting -- Ducks RB LeGarrette Blount was suspended for the season last year after an on-field altercation ... but he was reinstated after missing 10 games.

Steven Jackson's Alleged Victim -- The Wound

TMZ has obtained a photo of the scar Steven Jackson's ex-girlfriend claims she bears as a result of the alleged attack at the hands of the NFL star.

Steven Jackson and Supriya Harris

As we first reported, Supriya Harris filed a complaint with the Las Vegas Police Dept. yesterday accusing Jackson of beating her up while she was 9-months pregnant with their son in March 2009.

In the complaint, Harris claims Jackson smashed her into a door handle so hard that she bled "heavily" and needed to be hospitalized.

So far, Jackson is still not commenting on the incident.

Steven Jackson: Accusations Are 'Hurtful, Untrue'

NFL star Steven Jackson is denying the allegations made by his ex-girlfriend that he beat her back in 2009 while she was 9 months pregnant with their son.

The St. Louis Rams running back just released a statement to TMZ saying, "It's disheartening that I have to address any alleged allegations 10 months later, but I have read the accusations made by Supriya Harris, and they are untrue."

Jackson continued, "The accusations are especially hurtful because those who truly know me know that those actions would be out of character for me."

Jackson acknowledged that Harris is the mother of his son, and described the boy as "a son that I love and that I willingly support emotionally and financially."

He concluded, "I will address this matter thoroughly through the appropriate avenues, but not through the media."

Guest Post.....from...."Hunker Down Dawg"

If you liked.......

The Movie,  A few Good Men.......

You're gonna love this post featuring Mike Leach of Texas Tech and the alleged mistreatment of a football player.

From the good folks at ....

Hunker Down Dawg

Enjoy:

Mike Leach is Colonel Jessep

Monday 12/28/09

Coach Leach to Chancellor Hance: I run my team how I run my team. You want to investigate me, roll the dice and take your chances. I coach in front of 40,000 armed season ticket holders who would kill for me, so don't think for one second that you can come down here, flash your C.V. and make me nervous.

Tuesday 12/29/09

Coach Leach to A.D. Myers: You see Gerry, I can deal with the two-a-days, and the pulled groins, and the high ankle sprains. I don't want too much money, and I don't want medals. What I do want is for you to stand there in those faggoty white patent leather shoes and with your West Texas mouth and extend me some fucking courtesy. You gotta ask me nicely.

Wednesday 12/30/09

A.D Myers: Coach Leach, did you order the Isolation?
Attorney Ted Liggett: You don’t have to answer that question!
Coach Leach: I'll answer the question!
[to Myers]
Coach Leach: You want answers?
Myers: I think I'm entitled.
Coach Leach: You want answers?
Myers: I want the truth!
Coach Leach: You can’t handle the truth!
[pauses]
Coach Leach: Son, we play in a conference that has great teams, and those great teams have to be defeated by men with guts. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Chancellor Hance? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Adam James, and you curse the Pirate. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That James's isolation, while tragic, probably saved games. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves games. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me as that coach, you need me as that coach. We use words like cover two and zone read. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent coaching football. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who cheers and accepts praise for the glory of the very victories that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide them. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a playbook, and start coaching. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
Myers: Did you order the Isolation?
Coach Leach: I did the job I...
Myers: Did you order the Isolation?
Coach Leach: You’re GD right I did!
Coach Leach: [Hance dismisses the Board of Regents after Leach's revelation about the Isolation] What is this? What's going on? I did my job, I'd do it again!
[stands up defiantly]
Coach Leach: I'm gonna get on a plane and go on back to the Alamo Bowl.
Chancellor Hance: You're not going anywhere, Coach. ESPN... vilify the Coach!
[Joe Schad takes his post]
Chancellor Hance: Coach McNeill?
Coach Leach: What the hell is this?
Coach McNeill: Coach Leach, you have lost the right to coach the Raiders. Any statement you make...
Coach Leach: I'm being fired from coaching? Is that what this is? I'm being fired from coaching? This is funny. That's what this is. This is...
[turning to Myers and lunging at him]
Coach Leach: ...I'm gonna raid your village, plunder your homes and enslave your women! You fucked with the wrong Pirate!
Coach McNeill: Coach Leach! Do you understand you are fired as I have just stated to you?
Coach Leach: [contemptuously] You fuckin' people... you have no idea how to run a football team. All you did was weaken a football program today, Myers. That's all you did. You put winning football games in danger. Sweet dreams, son.

Power Hour on Dale Earnhardt Jr.!

Dale Earnhardt Jr.Dale Earnhardt Jr. was in one hell of a giving mood last night -- dude bought drinks for more than 800 people who walked into his North Carolina bar.

It all went down at the Whisky River bar in Charlotte -- which is owned by the NASCAR stud. We're told Dale decided to pick up the tab for every drink ordered in his place between 8-9pm.

Bartender Shawn Southern -- who was also on VH1's "Tool Academy" -- says the bill was "a ridiculous amount of money" ... but Dale made sure to treat the staff to a "very generous" tip.

And then...there are the Atlanta Hawks...... something went wrong.......in that 4th quarter:

Bye Bye.......Urban Meyer

From ESPN.com:

Meyer to coach final game at Sugar Bowl

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Urban Meyer, who was admitted to a hospital because of chest pains following the Southeastern Conference championship game, is stepping down because of health concerns.
Meyer resigned Saturday, calling it quits after five seasons in Gainesville and two national titles. He goes into the bowl game with a 56-10 record at Florida that includes a 32-8 mark in league play and a school-record 22-game winning streak ended early this month against Alabama.
Meyer, 45, says he consulted with his family, his doctors, school president Bernie Machen and athletic director Jeremy Foley before deciding it is in his best interest to focus on his health and family.
Meyer will hold a news conference in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon and will coach his final game in the Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati on New Year's Day.
"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," Meyer said in a statement. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to reevaluate my priorities of faith and family.
"After consulting with my family, Dr. Machen, Jeremy Foley and my doctors, I believe it is in my best interest to step aside and focus on my health and family."
"Coach Meyer and I have talked this through and I realize how hard this was for him to reach this decision," Foley said in a statement. "But, the bottom line is that Coach Meyer needed to make a choice that is in the best interest of his well being and his family. I certainly appreciate what he has meant to the University of Florida, our football program and the Gator Nation. I have never seen anyone more committed to his players, his family and his program. Above all, I appreciate our friendship."
Meyer helped the Gators win two national titles in five years at Florida. He is the only coach to win two BCS titles.
A three-time national coach of the year, Meyer is 95-18 in nine seasons.
Meyer came to Florida from Utah, where he closed out his stint with 16 consecutive wins. He began his head coaching career at Bowling Green in 2001, where he engineered the top turnaround in NCAA Division I-A football, showing a six-win improvement from the previous season. The Falcons rebounded from a 2-9 record with their first winning season (8-3) since 1994.

Introducing.........Turner Gill

Because.......he is a black man......and married to a white woman.....

Turner Gill has had a very long wait........to get into the big time college football arena.   A graduate of the University of Nebraska.....a star quarterback .......this man bid his time as an assistant coach.....before finally taking a head coaching job at Buffalo.

Buffalo?   No ......not that Buffalo.    This was .....the University of Buffalo.  A college team that had just 16 wins in 9 years.    9 years!

Gill wins 20.......in just three years......with really no Division I players......playing against.....Division I schools.

Why?   None of the big schools would touch him.

Gill  is now.....on the big screen.......the big stage....(if you can call Kansas big league).

But it is a step up.   We applaud Kansas for stepping up and making a statement.   The year is almost 2010.    Judge a man for his ability........not......a predetermined belief......of old white guys.

Turner Gill has proven.........he can coach.....and he can recruit........

It's a shame.....it took this long......to get ......a real job.

Things From the Week-end.......

It has been......(with all due respect for the man himself.....Brook Benton)

Raining for seemingly days.....in this small, southern, college town.   And foggy too.  The drought of 2008....is a distant memory.  I saw frogs......hopping along the highways.

Anyway......from the week-end:

The Atlanta Hawks.......have won 4 in a row.

The Atlanta Falcons.....have lost 6 of their last 8.

The best thing......I saw?   The Philadelphia- New York game......45-38!

The worst?    The Army-Navy game......3-0....at the half.

Congratulations........Mark Ingram......Heisman Trophy winner.......

Kudos........to the University of Kansas.......for hiring Turner Gill  (a black coach) to lead its football team.

Happy Trails.......Tiger Woods......taking an indefinite leave of absence......

Have the jokes........stopped........yet?

Hope you & yours.......had a great week-end.

It's.......About Time!

It took......

27 years.....10 jobs as an assistant coach......and  7 Universities....

Finally.........Charlie R. Strong.......has been named at head coach at a major college.   Years and years of rejection after rejection......Years and years .....of interview after interview.

And finally....the University of Louisville ....has had the good sense.....and the guts.....to hire this man.

Qualifications........were never a problem for Mr. Strong.  As a defensive coordinator,  he produced feared programs throughout the southeast  at schools like Florida and South Carolina.

But the fact remained......and still does.......Charlie Strong.... is married to ....a white woman.

And throughout the 70's,  80's, and even the 90's.....that just didn't sit well with the lily white booster clans.....of southern college football.

Welcome........Mr. Strong......we hope you are a great success at Louisville........and Louisville.....We salute you......for having the foresight.......and the "marbles".......to make this hire.

Things ....We Learned......From the Week-end

 Breaking News....

TV's "As The World Turns" gets axe after 54 years

That show......is older than me!

But......on with......what we learned:

Yes........it is a day late.....

But....Tuesday is good.   For it gives us an extra day to reflect......upon the week-end that was.

And.....what a week-end!    SEC football,  the NFL, the NBA,  Tiger Woods.......

Did we say,  "Tiger Woods"?   Sorry......this post....from here on out....will be ......."Tiger  free".

Today......we're smarter......because we learned:

The Atlanta Falcons....laid an egg.....lost at home....and got embarrassed by Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles,  34-7......in a game that was not even that close.    Now the Birds can look forward to hosting the 12-0 New Orleans Saints......Can you say,  56-3.....Saints?   It will be ugly.

It really felt .........real good.....to see Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators.....humbled by Alabama.   Final score was 32-13........and that was not even close to the real beat down the "Tide" gave Florida.

Defending Super Bowl Champion....Pittsburgh ........has lost 4 in a row.   What's up?

New England .......lost again .....in Miami.    What gives?

Are the.....12-0 Colts.......on a collision course.......with the 12-0 Saints?

Georgia Tech and Clemson......played a very entertaining game in the ACC Championship.   And ESPN did a great job of not showing the thousands of upper deck empty seats.

How many ........shopping days?

Welcome back.........Mr. Iverson.......you scored 11 points last night....and the Sixers' still lost by 10.

So.......are you any smarter?    We tried.

Why Soccer Moms........Hate....Football

I must admit.....

After seeing this collision...... the first time....I don't think I'd want my son to be put......this far into harm's way.

Then ........after about the 3rd of 4th time......well........it is .....football.

It's all in the game..... Are we sick......or what?

You're Fired!!!!!!!! Part 3

The University of Memphis........fired its head football coach the other day. Tommy West.

"It's ....painful", said Tommy.

This poor guy.....

Imagine if he was coaching at a real big time college program. In the SEC.....or the PAC-10....or the ACC.......or the Big 10.......or the Big 12?

Instead........he was fired as a coach........at Memphis....a mid major.....but....

He had the last word........And I think his superiors ......were caught.....just a little bit ...off guard.

You decide.....

Things From the Week-end.......

I don't know.....I can't say....

But I do know this......

This particular Monday, I don't feel so smart. Then again....I don't feel especially dumb.

We had our share of Rihanna (with the 60 minutes piece)......Note to both Chris & Rihanna: "You two are boring us.....at this point......It happened......it was ugly.......now, let all of us just move on. He beat you up........you stayed with him.....he beat you again.......you stayed.... by the grace of God, you came to your senses......and turned him in.

We can only hope........you have moved on. We have.

And ......in our wonderful world of sports.......

It was....just one of those ......"blah" week-ends. A little bit of this.....a little bit of that. Some college football mixed in with some NFL......with a sprinkle of the NBA. So ......here goes:

MIAMI, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Retired professional football great Lawrence Taylor was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident in the Miami area, police said.

Surprise, surprise, surprise!!!!!

Even a thug.....deserves ....a second chance:

EUGENE, Ore., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, suspended for punching a Boise State player, has been reinstated and is eligible to play in the No. 16 Ducks' next game.

Yep....this is that same guy.....You remember......the one that cold-cocked that Boise State player......in the first game of the season.....on national TV.

Michael Vick....1 carry......2 yards.

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Tony Romo hit Miles Austin with a 49-yard fourth-quarter touchdown pass Sunday and the Dallas Cowboys beat Philadelphia 20-16.

So much for the Michael Vick experiment in Philly. It's like the Eagles have a 400 horsepower Hemi........and they are driving in the fast lane.......doing about 40 mph.....to conserve fuel.

Note to Philly........"punch it".....put the pedal to the medal.........use it ....or lose it. Let's see .......what Vick........can be.

Home.......Sweet Home....

ATLANTA, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Atlanta scored in the first quarter on a Matt Ryan pass and 62-yard interception run by Tye Hill Sunday and went on to beat the Washington Redskins 31-17.

These birds have only lost 1 home game.....under this new regime of head coach Mike Smith....11-1......we should re-word it.....and say, "Dome, sweet dome".

A.I. ?????? A.I.??????

MEMPHIS, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Memphis Grizzlies guard Allen Iverson has left the team to handle a personal matter, The Commercial Appeal reported Saturday.

The Detroit experiment failed. (We told you.....here...first). Now this. Iverson ......was.....at one time......a great basketball player....who was under 6 feet tall.....but could score with the best of them. But.........we all get old. And at age, 36.....well .....let's just say, A.I., you're not 21 ......anymore.

So there......didn't learn a whole lot........just another Saturday and Sunday.

And now........we have another week to deal with .

Have fun!

Things......We learned from the Week-end

If......it's Monday.....

Then we should be a tad bit smarter........For ....we learned a few things.....from the week-end.

Two college football programs.......very over-rated: Georgia and USC......

Two college football teams......that are "pretenders": Oklahoma State and Iowa....

Brett Favre..........is still.......one heck of a quarterback.........

The NFL football NY Giants.........have some serious problems.....

The Tennessee Vols........are a pretty decent football team......

The Oakland Raiders.......are a bad football team.....

The Atlanta Hawks.......cannot win .......on the west coast.....ever.......

The NY Yankees.......will win the world series....

NASCAR.......is only as good.....as the last spectacular......wreck....

And ........the most important thing we learned? Set those clocks back......before....going to bed. If not.........Sunday mornings on a Daylight Savings Time week-end.......can be .....shall we say......a bit confusing.

Another View...... From Mark Bradley.....

We were not the only ones.....burning up .....over the Georgia Bulldogs latest futile attempt to play a competitive football game against that enemy ....and arch rival........Florida.

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution & columnist, Mark Bradley:

His headline read:

Another black Saturday in Jax reveals UGA as second-rate.....
Ouch!!!

One more is hunting a third BCS title; the other is trying to get bowl-eligible. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

One is hunting a third BCS title; the other isn't bowl-eligible. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Jacksonville — The game was a total loss, but the lesson imparted need not be. After yet another lost Saturday in Duval County, this much is beyond dispute: Georgia is no longer a major player in its division, let alone the nation.

Mark Richt began his somber media briefing by saying, “Well, here we are again.” And there they were, lopsided losers. It was 49-10 last season and 41-17 this time, and for all the good work Richt did in the early part of this decade, he and his program have been lapped by Urban Meyer. And Richt, once so clever and driven, seems to have run out of ideas.

He tried the color-scheme gimmick Saturday, presenting his players with black helmets after they’d warmed up in the usual red headgear. The upshot of this was to make Georgia look like an Arena league team and to cow the nation’s No. 1 team not one whit. After 11 1/2 minutes, the guys in the orange hats led the guys in the black hats 14-0.

“It’s not the helmet,” safety Reshad Jones said. “It’s what inside the helmet.”

Well, yes. With an extra week to prepare, Willie Martinez seemed even more witless than usual. As bad as the Gators’ first two touchdowns were, the third was an affront to everything Red and Black. Facing third-and-3 at the Georgia 23 with 1:32 left in the half, Florida ran a simple option. Tim Tebow faked a handoff and burst up the middle. He scored the touchdown that put him ahead of the hallowed Herschel Walker without being touched.

“They’re a good team,” said defensive end Justin Houston. “But it seemed like every time we made a bad play, they capitalized on it.”

In the first half Georgia had eight penalties. In the second it had four interceptions. If it was to have any chance against the Gators, it had to play a clean game. Instead it authored another in a series of messes.

If we’re to believe recruiting rankings, the gulf between Georgia and Florida shouldn’t be so pronounced. But Saturday was another installment of men against boys, and it called to mind the barb Steve Spurrier sunk into Ray Goff in this stadium 18 years ago: “Georgia gets all these players — I don’t know what happens to them.”

Players go to Florida and get, to invoke another Spurrier-ism, coached up. Players come to Georgia and are left to their own devices. Martinez is a substandard defensive coordinator, and no other position coach can be said to have done fabulous work. (Unless you count Kevin Butler, who isn’t a coach but who did sire the prodigious punter Drew Butler.)

Said Richt: “We’re 4-4 this season. I don’t think it’s an indictment of the program. I think it’s an indictment of where we are this year.”

Except Georgia has underachieved three times in the past four seasons, and as Richt himself noted Saturday: “There’s no guarantee of a bowl. The question is, will we play a game when we don’t do something that hinders us from being the best we can be?”

The Bulldogs have never lost more than four games under Richt, but they’ve never been 4-4 under this coach, either. Regarding possible changes, he said: “It’s not good to make decisions within minutes of an emotional game. You’ve got to settle your mind and settle your spirit, and then see where you are.”

As darkness fell on Halloween 2009, Georgia was again where it has been too often. The program that has all the resources was left to wonder why it has fallen so far behind Florida. And the ugly truth has never been more apparent: Florida might or might not have better players, but it absolutely has better coaches.

Time ....for ....Some Changes.....

We ...rarely .....make posts...on the weekends.........but........

Can't help this one. Take a look:

Florida 41, Georgia 17

The annual ........."cocktail party".

The game started.......with UGA....using yet another gimmick.....Black helmets........black pants....

Note to Georgia: If you have to revert to gimmicks......then .....you're not that good.

Georgia just got humiliated ...........on national TV......and ..........it was not even that close.

Joe Cox........the UGA quarterback........threw three interceptions.........and it just got worse.

This Georgia team......is not that good.

Too many penalties ............no rushing yardage.......equals.........losses.

Our take?

Fire the entire coaching staff........

Georgia had a bye week..........a whole week off to prepare.........it looked....in this game....Florida had the week off.

Totally ......unacceptable......

Defensive Coordinator........FIRED!!!

Offensive Coordinator........FIRED!!!

Head Coach????????

Fired..........

Mark Richt might have been the right man for the job........10 years ago.....but this is 2009....and with Urban Meyer, Nick Saban ........and others.......

Mr. Richt........is a little out of his league.

Thoughts.....on a Friday.....

A rainy night .....in Georgia.....

In this small southern college town......it is gloomy and raining. It is almost Halloween. It is late October....the leaves are a changing......the mornings are cool.....

Fall........
is in the air.

Michael Jackson (God rest his soul) and his movie ....."This is it"......is breaking box office records.

The NY Yankees...came alive and won game 2 of the world series to even it at...1-1.

Why can't........people drive normally .....when it rains in the ATL?

I sure hope.......UGA doesn't embarrass itself....against Florida.

The ...."Worlds' largest Outdoor Cocktail Party"....is tomorrow......

Georgia--Florida..........or Florida--Georgia.........depending on your school.

It's a ........"border war" .....none the less.

And..........It's Halloween.

And.......the end of ....."Daylight savings time".

Can ......it get any better?
