Is Your Momma......A "Ho"?

We are......sure the question was not phrased quite this way.......but......an inappropriate question just the same.

This GM should be fired:

NFL exec sorry for dissing player's mom

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland apologizes to Dez Bryant for an insulting question about the receiver's mother. » Details

Dez Bryant, one of the most highly rated rated wide receivers in the 2010 NFL Draft, raised eyebrows last week when he told Yahoo! Sports' Michael Silver that one team asked him a particularly bizarre question during an interview:
"They asked me if my mom's a prostitute," Bryant says, an account that was confirmed by Wells, who attended the meeting. "No, my mom is not a prostitute. I got mad - really mad - but I didn't show it. I got a lot of questions like that: Does she still do drugs? I sat and answered all of them."

A Fool and His Money.....Part ....IV?

This is becoming  the norm.   And this is not good.

Yet another fool......and his money part ways.

Rick Mahorn is bankrupt and no longer has his championship ring

Apparently it doesn't matter when you played in the NBA, if you were ever a forward in the Eastern Conference there's a good chance you're going to file for bankruptcy. It sucks, but based on Antoine Walker, Derrick Coleman, and now Rick Mahorn it has to be true. Stupid recession.
As I mentioned, the bankruptcy bug has stricken former Piston/Bullet/Net/76er Rick Mahorn. It's your typical tale of investments gone bad, houses going under, and just general bad luck. Take it away, Detroit News.
Mahorn, 51, and his wife filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy because of failed investments, the plummeting value of their Rochester Hills home, and the burden of repaying more than $200,000 to the IRS, he said. Portions of his paychecks have been seized to satisfy delinquent federal taxes, records show.[...]
Mahorn and his wife filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Dec. 8, listing $228,603 in assets and $518,688 in liabilities. The case is pending in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Detroit. A Chapter 7 filing lets individuals discharge certain debts while allowing the court to liquidate nonexempt assets and use the money to help pay creditors.
Public records indicate Mahorn and his wife faced a foreclosure sale in April 2009 because the couple had defaulted on their mortgage and owed more than $539,000. They were later sued in a Rochester Hills district court by U.S. National Bank, which won a judgment for possession in November.
Despite making more than $6 million throughout his playing career and pulling in a six figure salary as a Pistons commentator, Mahorn and his wife had just $1,101 dollars to their name when they filed. The couple also listed three late-model cars and a house that's value had decreased by $300,000. Perhaps saddest of all, Mahorn no longer has his championship ring from his days with the Pistons, telling the Detroit News that "it's gone."
Furthermore, he also owes $55 to a local library, which is kind of like terrible icing on the horrible cake. Good luck, Rick.

Another Fool & His Money Part Ways

First it was....Antoine Walker....Now former NBA star, Derrick Coleman has blown $87 million.

Will our people ever learn?

Derrick Coleman is almost $5 million in debt

It's not a good time to be a hyper-skilled forward who never really made the most of their considerable talent. First, it was Antoine Walker(notes), his casino debts, and a short stint in Puerto Rico. Now, it's Derrick Coleman, failed business investments, and fur coats.
According to the Wall Street Journal's Bankruptcy Beat, Coleman has filed for bankruptcy and owes creditors $4.7 million, most of which he lost in failed attempts to stimulate Detroit's struggling local economy. His lawyer Mark B. Berke explained the reasons for Coleman's financial struggles.
"Mr. Coleman was focused on investing in various communities throughout the city of Detroit by developing real estate, creating jobs and revitalizing business opportunities," Berke said. "Due to the state of the economy, including the decline in the real estate market, Mr. Coleman's investments could not be sustained."
According to Basketball Reference, Coleman made more than $87 million during his 15 year career with the Nets, 76ers, Hornets, and Pistons. But now he has only about $1 million in assets, including a 1997 Bentley convertible, five fur coats, and $3,000 in jewelry. Not exactly appreciating assets.
Coleman's biggest debt comes from a $1.3 million lawsuit brought against him by Comerica Bank and a $1 million real estate loan from Thornburg Mortgage Home Loans. He also owes $50,000 to NBA Hall of Famer, and current Detroit mayor, Dave Bing.
Despite the filing, Coleman will be trying to keep both his Beverly Hills home, and the home that he bought for his mother, also located in Beverly Hills. Berke says that Coleman is "just hoping to get rid of that debt and make a fresh start."
They say that two is a coincidence, and three is a trend — someone needs to check on Billy Owens to make sure he's doing OK.

NBC's Dreadful Ending

From GaPeach 913......

Parting shots.....on the 2010 Winter Olympics:

NBC awkwardly and abruptly ends Olympic coverage

How did NBC choose to end its 865 hours of Winter Olympic coverage? By barely acknowledging that said coverage was ending.
In a bizarre conclusion to its telecasts of the 2010 Vancouver Games, NBC awkwardly cut away to air the premiere of the much-hyped reality show, "The Marriage Ref." Viewers were abruptly informed that coverage of the Ceremony would continue at 11:30 p.m. ET.
Here's how it went down: At 10:29 p.m. ET, the network abruptly cut to commercial after singer Michael Buble finished a swinging, Sinatra-like rendition of "The Maple Leaf Forever". After a few ads, NBC cut back to a wide shot of the ongoing Ceremony (there were a number of inflatable animals on the floor at BC Place, making it look like an indoor version of the Macy's Day Parade) and viewers heard Bob Costas say:
"We're back in an hour with the Closing Ceremony party from Vancouver. Nickleback and Avril Lavigne are among the acts that will be performing. But right now we take you to the premiere of Jerry Seinfeld's new series, 'The Marriage Ref.' "
And then, suddenly, coverage of the Olympics was over and the intro to Jerry Seinfeld's show began.
All that NBC does in over-dramatizing the Games and that's how they choose to end coverage for a vast majority of viewers? (Because, let's face it, most people aren't tuning in for the 11:30 p.m. coverage.) No Costas sign-off? No end credits? No cheesy summation of the triumphs of the Olympic spirit? Where's our closure?

A Whole lot of People......Were Watching

From Yahoo Sports:

Super Bowl is most watched TV show ever

NEW YORK (AP)—The New Orleans Saints’ victory over Indianapolis in the Super Bowl was watched by more than 106 million people, surpassing the 1983 finale of “M-A-S-H” to become the most-watched program in U.S. television history, the Nielsen Co. said Monday.
Compelling story lines involving the city of New Orleans and its ongoing recovery from Hurricane Katrina and the attempt at a second Super Bowl ring for Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning(notes) propelled the viewership. Football ratings have been strong all season.
“It was one of those magical moments that you don’t often see in sports,” said Sean McManus, president of CBS News and Sports.

Nielsen estimated Monday that 106.5 million people watched Sunday’s Super Bowl. The “M-A-S-H” record was 105.97 million.
The viewership estimate obliterated the previous record viewership for a Super Bowl—last year’s game between Arizona and Pittsburgh. That game was seen by 98.7 million people, Nielsen said.
The “M-A-S-H” record has proven as durable and meaningful in television as Babe Ruth’s record of 714 home runs was in baseball until topped by Hank Aaron. Ultimately, it may be hard to tell which program was really watched by more people. There’s a margin for error in such numbers, and Nielsen’s Monday estimate was preliminary, and could change with a more thorough look at data due Tuesday.
“It’s significant for all of the members of the broadcasting community,” said Leslie Moonves, CBS Corp. CEO. “For anyone who wants to write that broadcasting is dead, 106 million people watched this program. You can’t find that anywhere else.”
Moonves predicted CBS will earn more in advertising revenue than in any other Super Bowl. The good ratings for the game and football in general also set CBS and other football broadcasters up well when selling advertising for next season, he said.
The Nielsen estimate also drew some congratulations from Alan Alda, the star of “M-A-S-H,” and the slugger whose record was beaten.
“If the `M-A-S-H’ audience was eclipsed, it was probably due in large part to the fact that the whole country is rooting for New Orleans to triumph in every way possible,” Alda said. “I am, too, and I couldn’t be happier for them. I love that city.”
There are more American homes with television sets now (114.9 million) than there were in 1983 (83.3 million). An estimated 77 percent of homes with TVs on were watching “M-A-S-H” in 1983, compared with the audience share of 68 for the Super Bowl.
Nielsen also measures only the United States, and it’s possible some World Cup soccer games were seen more worldwide. Accurate measurement of television audiences outside the United States is spotty at best.
Alda also wondered whether the numbers were too close to declare a new champion. He thinks Nielsen didn’t take into account large numbers of people watching “M-A-S-H” communally, which is often the case for football games, too.
“Not to say I’m competitive, but in part we are talking about sports,” he said. “And I actually AM competitive.”
McManus didn’t want to jinx it, but the abnormally strong viewership for football this year left him hoping for a record. The NFC and AFC championship games both had their biggest audiences since the 1980s. The growth of high-definition television and its appeal to sports fans has also helped.
A competitive game until the final minutes sealed it. McManus acknowledged some nervousness when Indianapolis jumped out to a 10-0 lead—a Super Bowl rout often makes people turn away from the game—but New Orleans roared back.
The Mid-Atlantic blizzard also helped CBS. After New Orleans, the highest-rated market was snowbound Washington, Nielsen said. More people watched the game from their homes in that area instead of going to parties or bars, and Nielsen does a much better job counting viewers in homes than outside of them.
“Bad weather in the Northeast and good weather in Florida was a good combination for us,” McManus said.
The Super Bowl also proved a strong launching pad for the new CBS series “Undercover Boss” that premiered after the game. An estimated 38.6 million people watched the first edition of a series about corporate honchos working secretly as low-level employees in their own companies, Nielsen said. That’s third only to a 1996 “Friends” and 2001 “Survivor” as the most-watched program after the Super Bowl.
Meanwhile, Dorito’s was a big winner in a measurement of interest in the commercials played during the Super Bowl. TiVo Inc. said the snack company’s ad featuring a boy telling a man to keep his hands off his chips and his mom was stopped and played back in 15 percent of homes with the digital video recorder.
The secretly filmed CBS promo with David Letterman, Jay Leno and Oprah Winfrey came in second, followed by the Snicker’s ad with Betty White and Abe Vigoda flattened in a football game.
In general, however, TiVo found less interest in the commercials than it has in previous years, judged by how many people paused live action to see them, said Todd Juenger, general manager of TiVo’s research department.

Henry's teary fiancee speaks at funeral (AP)

Seini Henry, daugther of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry, shows a message to Henry before a memorial service in Westwego, La., Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009. Henry, who grew up in nearby Belle Chasse, died Thursday, Dec. 17, after falling out of the back of a pickup truck driven by his fiancee, Loleini Tonga.
Chris Henry's fiancee wept as she spoke about the late Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tuesday, saying that while she often got credit for helping him stay clear of trouble, he changed her life as well. Henry, 26, was killed after he fell out of the bed of pickup truck driven by his fiancee, Loleini Tonga, during what police called a domestic dispute.

Hump Day.....News & Views

Wednesday......."Hump Day".....

Some "stuff".......we're following:

From the "I want to be like Plaxico" files.....we give you this story:

Dodgers' Padilla hurt in gun incident
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Vicente Padilla was treated for a gunshot wound after being accidentally shot in the right leg.

Guns........and pro athletes........just don't make a good mix.....period!

In case you missed it:

NFL: New Orleans 35, Atlanta 27
NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Drew Brees passed for 308 yards and two TDs Monday and the New Orleans Saints held off a late threat to get a 35-27 win over Atlanta.

Atlanta had their chances on Monday night......But Matt Ryan threw 3 interceptions....one , a pick 6 the other way. The Saints are now 7-0......But.....

Falcon fans should rely on history. In their 40 something year existence, the Saints have never made it to the Super Bowl......and ........they will not ......this year.

These are the New Orleans Saints.....mark our word......the wheels will come off......be it injuries, bad luck........or both. This is a cursed city......and the football gods will never let these Saints......go undefeated.......much less .......win a Super Bowl.

Alright......we were wrong:

PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Jamal Crawford led all scorers with 27 points Tuesday and the Atlanta Hawks used the fast break and a dominant inside game to down Portland 97-91.

We thought the Hawks would never win on the west coast.......Last night, they proved us wrong. This Jamal Crawford dude.........can ball!

MLB's World Series.....enters game 6:

NEW YORK — All-Star center fielder Shane Victorino was in Philadelphia's starting lineup Wednesday night for Game 6 of the World Series despite a finger injury. Victorino was struck on his right index finger by a fastball from AJ Burnett in the first ...

This
has been an entertaining series.....and a ratings success for Fox. MLB has learned a valuable lesson: Let the games start earlier. In the past, the first pitch would not be made until around 9:30 eastern standard time. This year, the games start promptly at 7:57 pm. Meaning......MLB.......has all of us on the east coast.......watching......instead of sleeping.

Actor Ralph Macchio ( The Karate Kid) is 48.
Survivor host Jeff Probst is 48.
Actor Matthew McConaughey is 40.

Finally......I hope you guys voted yesterday......No , I did not.......but we didn't have any races going on in this small, southern, college town.

Finally......finally.....I actually heard......Christmas music......in a store I was in yesterday....and we're just barely into November....Go figure!

An Andruw Jones........Sighting....

When last saw Andruw Jones..........

He was being unceremoniously dumped......fired......discarded......by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Just one year .........and the Dodgers were cutting their losses.

Could you blame them?

Last year, Jones played in only 75 games........batted a measly .158...........with 3 home runs and 14 RBI's while striking out 76 times.

We have been harsh critics of Andruw. He.......with all that "potential".....but never asserted himself........like so many greats before him.

Talent wise.....he is the best pure center fielder.......I've ever seen play the game. With all due respects to Willie Mays......I actually saw Jones play.......live.....in person. No balls ever got over his head........nothing fell in front.

A "phenom"..........

Then........he got married.....signed a huge mega-million dollar contract.......and got lazy. Or, maybe he signed the huge deal.......and then got married.......Whatever..........he got lazy.

And when the Atlanta Braves did not re-sign him after the 2007 season..........he took off to Hollywood.

Well........fast forward to yesterday: Andruw Jones hits 3 HRs as Rangers win

Andruw........has re-invented himself with the Texas Rangers! Barely making the team in spring training, Jones has already hit 14 homers.......driven in 34 runs.....and has a respectable .250 batting average .......in 46 games.

At age 32.........his best years may be behind him.......but it's good to see........he finally.....gets it.

Too bad it could'nt be with his old team..........the Braves.

Sister Act...........Part IV

Serena........and .....Venus........

Taking their "Sister Act" to the finals......across the pond....at Wimbledon.....again (
Venus-Serena final for fourth time ).......

Tomorrows' Wimbledon tennis championship match will .....for the 4th time.....feature these two amazing athletes from Compton, CA.

Serena beat her older sister in 2002 and 2003, with Venus winning last year.

“I feel very calm, actually,” said Venus, who is 2-5 against Serena in Grand Slam finals. “But, of course, I’m going to bring the tough feet to the court.”

For Serena, it’s just more of the same.

“We’re used to being in this position now, so we pretty much have it down,” Serena said Friday after she and Venus beat top-seeded Cara Black and Liezel Huber 6-1, 6-2 to reach Saturday’s doubles final, where they will face Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs.

“I feel like going into this final I have nothing to lose,” said Serena, who is 27 years old, two years younger than Venus. “I feel like obviously she’s playing the best tennis at this tournament.”

No matter what happens.......one thing is for sure. A Williams will be crowned champion.

Box Score - Recap - Highlights

The series travels to Orlando and will reconvene on Tuesday in this 2-3-2 format.

As close as the game was last night, the Magic have to feel good about getting at least 2 wins at home.

It'll never happen........and this series will never make it back to L A...

Last nights' game, was the Magics' one and only chance. And Mr. Lee could not hit a lay-up.

Can you believe Orlando is now 0-6.......in the finals? After this series........they will be 0-8.
