2 Georgia players in trouble for driving infractions

Two Georgia football players are facing legal trouble for driving violations.

A bench warrant was issued for linebacker Rennie Curran last Wednesday after the junior failed to appear in court in Franklin County for a speeding ticket issued on July 4, according to a clerk in Franklin County Probate Court.

Curran, a preseason All-Southeastern Conference selection by the coaches, leads the SEC with 64 tackles.

Curran didn’t understand what he was required to do to answer to the speeding charge, but plans to pay the fine Thursday, said Associate Athletic Director Claude Felton. Coach Mark Richt won’t suspend Curran, Felton said.

Meanwhile, backup cornerback Vance Cuff is suspended for Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt after University of Georgia police arrested him Tuesday on charges he was driving a motorized scooter on a sidewalk with a suspended license, UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson said today. He was not charged with emerging from an alley as was cited on the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office Web site, Williamson said.

Cuff told police that his license was suspended and an officer confirmed that was true, Williamson said. Cuff would not have been arrested if his license wasn’t suspended.

“We have tried to communicate to the students and the student-athletes that we can’t ride on sidewalks with these motorized vehicles,” said Williamson, who said UGA police get a significant number of calls from students complaining about scooters on sidewalks. “We’re trying to meet the needs of the majority of the students.”

Cuff’s scooter was stopped when an officer approached, but he had been driving down Rutherford Street near the Butts-Mehre Building, Williamson said. That street is closed due to an expansion of the building which houses the football program.

Cuff was booked into the Clarke County Jail at 3:24 p.m. Tuesday and released at 4:16 p.m. on bonds totaling $1,750.

“He used poor judgment first in the route he took and also for being on the scooter at all with a suspended license,” Richt said in a statement.

Richt and Cuff spoke for several minutes on the side early in practice on Tuesday. Cuff then went on a nearby field to run with strength and conditioning coach Dave Van Halanger.

Cuff has appeared in three games. He sustained a knee injury against Arkansas. He has nine tackles and a pass breakup.

When it goes bad......it goes ......real bad.

Have a great......"Hump Day".

Hump Day News & Views

On this Wednesday afternoon..........

In this .......southern, college town.....the temperature has reached 80 degrees.....and .....it's March.

Only ten days ago......we were buried under a freak snow storm with 7 inches of the "pretty white stuff".

And .......we were without power..........satellite.........internet........and cell phone service.

But thanks to size D batteries.......transistor radios........blankets.......kerosene heaters.......we were able to make due.

Now it's time to get that garden ready......Will Mother Nature be kind.......this year?

The rotor-tiller is primed and ready........but .......am I?.....We will see.

In the news........things we're following:

No.......not again.......
Another football league is going to try to challenge the NFL.....Have they not learned? The new one is the United Football League.....(UFL)..........

Green, Fassel, Haslett to coach in UFL (AP)

Former NFL coaches.......who could not cut it in the NFL........will now be coaches in this new league.

We give it six months........until it folds.

T. O. has a job.......

Boy that was quick.....No sooner than Terrell Owens was unceremoniously fired by the Dallas Cowboys.......the "I love me some me" man.....was hired .....by the Buffalo Bills.....A 1 year contract..........for a reported 6 million dollars.

Talk about a fish out of water? Buffalo? T. O.? It's like a Cadillac parked in an Alabama trailer park. Or better yet.....Paris Hilton........shopping in a Walmart....It just .......doesn't fit.

The "Diamond Dawgs" rock........

Yes.....I'm talking about those baseball bulldogs.....off to their best start ever........12-0.....and ranked number one in at least 2 polls. You all know........I have not been a fan of the "ping league".......(colleges use those annoying sounding aluminum bats).....but......these guys can really play some baseball. It's still early...........but .......I'm on that bandwagon.....

Someone..........real soon........will get up and slap.......Judge Judy........and we will all applaud.

The AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) is getting as thin as the ABH (Athens Banner-Herald)

Things........I'm thinking........

Have a great.........
Hump Day.

How Not to Eat Grits

Sometimes.....stories just get dumped on our laps.......

Such is the case of University of Georgia gymnastics coach, Suzanne Yoculan . Seems Yoculan made micro-wave grits ( a sin in itself to southerners).

And when she ate them.......or tried to .......the grits burned her esophagus to the point of her being hospitalized for 3 days.

She must have been mighty hungry. Has she never heard .....you
"blow" on your grits.....before putting that fork full into your mouth?

Or........you put a lot of cold butter on your hot grits........to neutralize the situation. Obviously, Ms. Yoculan is no true southerner.......and a miss-informed outsider.....who has not mastered the art of eating that "Georgia Ice Cream".....we all know .....as grits.

From the "Athens Banner-Herald":

Yoculan released from hospital

By Jennifer Iannone | Athens Banner-Herald | Story updated at 11:09 pm on 10/16/2008

Georgia gymnastics coach Suzanne Yoculan was released from the hospital Thursday after being treated for burns to her esophagus.

Yoculan was admitted to Athens Regional Hospital for three days after ingesting a spoonful of grits just out of the microwave. The grits burned eight inches of her esophagus.

"I couldn't breathe or swallow or drink," Yoculan said. "It was really painful. I was on morphine for three days."

Store clerk injured saving cheap wine

A Watkinsville man is facing felony charges after he assaulted a Hull convenience store clerk over two $3 bottles of stolen Mad Dog 20/20 and a $2 bottle of beer, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Office.

Craig Nicholas Lakins, 23, was charged Monday with kidnapping, aggravated assault and robbery. Police said Lakins was sitting in his car and grabbed the arm of the clerk just before 9 p.m. Thursday at Diamond Hill Grocery, drove off and dragged him for 75 feet.

The clerk had confronted Lakins about stealing the alcohol, and when the clerk reached in to take the bottle, Lakins grabbed his arm, police said.

The clerk was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of several abrasions he got falling to the asphalt and a wound to his wrist that required stitches, police said.

Now that's..........one dedicated......employee!

Car not stolen, but driver faces charge

An officer arrested a 29-year-old Athens man early Monday after he was stopped because his car matched the description of a stolen car, Athens-Clarke police said.

The Monte Carlo was not stolen, police said, but officers saw a bag of marijuana in the car, and when they searched it, found another bag and a digital scale, police said.

Adrian Lynn, 29, of Lombardy Drive, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a drug-related object and driving without insurance, police said.

Talk about bad luck.......this guy was in the wrong place...with the wrong car...
