Welcome Back..........Michael Vick......Sort of....

Michael Vick........

Has been re-instated into the National Football League.

Conditionally.....

Meaning he can sign with a team........practice with a team.....play in pre-season games with a team........but...........

He cannot play with said team in a real game.......until October........or week six.

Excuse me while I puke. You're telling me, the United States government has sentenced this man to 2 years in a federal penitentiary........for which he served his time.......lost tens of millions of dollars.......And now the NFL....is flexing it's muscle.....by not letting him play....in a meaningful game.......until week six?

Let us ........puke.......some more.

Where is the "players union"? Why is the almighty NFL depriving Vick.....of making a living. Yes.....he is an ex-con....... and yes...........he paid his debt to society.

And........yes..........the NFL..........to borrow a quote from our president........"Acted....stupidly ".

Take your pick....on the following stories.......

Michael Vick paid his debt, but should NFL let him play?

Los Angeles Times - USA Today

We here at 5 on Five........have a novel idea....

Leave the man alone....let him play.........

Now!!

A Tragedy........in Anaheim.......

Senseless..........Terrible.....Unfathomable ........Unexpected....

Why did this have to happen?

Nick Adenhart was 22 years old. He signed with the Anaheim Angels fresh out of high school at the age of 18. He was a pitcher..........with a 98 miles per hour fast ball.

At 22.......his best years in life appeared to be ahead of him.......He had just pitched 6 scoreless innings in his major league debut.......

And........we're talking about him.....in the past tense.......

Why?

Nick Adenhart .......along with two friends........was killed early Thursday morning..........broadsided in the car he was riding in........by an alleged drunk driver........a hit and run.......

Anyone who has ever lost a loved one........at such a young age.......feels the pain this family is going through.

Why?

Why now???????

Why him?????

From all reports.......he was a good kid......Just loved to play....."the game of baseball".

And .......just like that.....some drunk comes along..........and snuffs his life........away.

Of course, the drunk........will plead innocent...of the charges. His lawyers (paid to defend him) will make arguments on his behalf....

But ..........the "drunk" should just come clean.......If he had not taken that mini-van .....on the road.....had not had .......all of those drinks.....

We would not be talking about Mr. Adenhart...........in the past tense.

This sucks.......

I'm pissed............

Our thoughts and prayers.......go out to the Adenhart family.

A tragedy..........

A Venus & Serena Show

In the 17th meeting ......

Between the sisters, Venus and Serena Williams......the two tennis superstars put on quite a show in New York last night.

Serena Williams upends sister Venus, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (7), at US Open

In the previous 16 meetings between the two.......each had won 8........and lost 8.

This time , it was Serena who outlasted her older sister. With the parents sitting this one out.....older sister, Isha Price was there to represent the Williams family.

Normally the sisters are seeded in different brackets to potentially meet in final matches.......however , in this years US Open, the two met in the quarterfinals . Still , the match was slated for prime time........in Arthur Ashe Stadium.....in front of 20,000 fans.

Venus and Serena did not disappoint. With a dazzling display of tennis, they wowed the crowd.

And on this night.....it was Serena's turn.

Earthquake.......No Problem.....We're Still Playing!

5.4 earthquake rocks L.A. area; minor injuries and damage reported

From the Los Angeles Times:

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 jolted large parts of Southern California late this morning, shaking a wide swath from Ventura County to San Diego and causing minor damage and a few injuries.

The quake rattled buildings in downtown Los Angeles and was felt as far east as Palm Springs. It was centered near Chino Hills, about 30 miles east of Los Angeles, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

But........the games go on........as in baseball:

From....Yahoo Sports:

Dodgers-Giants game to be played despite earthquake

LOS ANGELES (TICKER) —Tuesday’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants will be played at its scheduled time despite an earthquake that hit Southern California earlier in the afternoon.

A tremor measured with a 5.4 magnitude struck near

ly 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles in the city of Chino Hills at 2:42 p.m. EDT. The city in the county of San Bernardino is a relatively remote area.

When contacted by PA SportsTicker, a spokeswoman for the Dodgers confirmed that there was some shaking of Dodger Stadium but no damage was found and the game would be played as scheduled.

Los Angeles is hosting San Francisco in the second game of a three-game series with the first pitch tabbed for 10:10 p.m. EDT.

You gotta love.....Major League Baseball.......You can't play in the rain........but earthquakes? And aftershocks?

We play on........
