Hump Day News & Views
Yes, we know.....we're a day late.
Let us pause to remember........
Today is 9/11.......Doesn't seem like it's been 7 years since the world trade center twin towers collapsed and disappeared before our eyes from a couple of 747's striking them. Where were you?
Seven years ago.....this southern college town shut down.......along with thousands of cities across this nation. Schools closed early, the University of Georgia suspended classes, the Mall closed......Every one was glued to a TV set....watching, waiting.
This was the first time in my life time...........every television station.......local, national, cable, sports....and even movie channels .......were all carrying live coverage of that day's events.
It marked the first attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor ..........and the first ever attack on the mainland .
The aftermath was astonishing. As Americans, we became more patriotic overnight. We bought flags.......we learned the words to the National Anthem. Black, White, Asian, Hispanic........we now spoke to one another when we passed along the sidewalks or in a shopping mall. We ....were all Americans.....we all felt and shared a unique pain and sorrow.
New York City.........the New York we love to hate.......was now treated like our kid brother....(Don't mess with one of us)......and the rest of America came to it's aid.
Time has passed........it's been 7 years..........the initial reactions have subsided.....
But we all remember the morning of September 11, 2001........
9/11...........
