Summer 2012 will see five Celebrity Cruises ships in Europe, including the brand new Celebrity Cruises Silhouette, based in Rome from July, and Celebrity Eclipse based from Southampton for the third consecutive year. new itineraries include:

12-night Eastern Mediterranean & Greek Isles, Adriatic and Italy and Croatia sailings onboard Celebrity Silhouette14-night Canaries & Azores and Iceland & Fjords and 8 night Norwegian Fjords sailings onboard Celebrity Cruises Eclipse.

The shiny new Celebrity Cruises Silhouette will welcome passengers for the first time later this month in Germany but that’s the easy part for one of the world’s premium cruise lines. Silhouette departed the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany for open seas this week but not before completing a 26-mile navigation of the River Ems where she had less than five feet of room to maneuver at certain points.
With various locks and tight passages to navigate, Celebrity Cruises Silhouette was required to travel on an aqueduct over an autobahn (motorway) at one point. Power lines and railway tracks normally passing over the river were removed and the tide was measured closely to ensure it was high enough to ensure safe passage. Travelling at less than 4 miles per hour, the most challenging voyage Celebrity Silhouette is set to embark on, took 12 hours to complete.

By combining a premium culinary experience with the sensation of relaxing on the top deck of a ship, surrounded by live grass and cool ocean breezes,Celebrity Cruises ’s aim is to celebrate the passion people have for grilling, as they enjoy their precious vacation time. The highlight of the dining experience at the 58-seat Lawn Club Grill will be the opportunity for guests to serve as their party’s “Grill Master,” by being paired with a Celebrity Cruises chef to assist in preparing the menu for their table over custom-built, ventilated grills. This unique, one-on-one interaction will give the Grill Master a one-of-a-kind, firsthand lesson in proper grilling techniques and other tricks of the grilling trade. All guests will have the opportunity to choose from a gourmet salad bar, a la carte “build your own” pizzas and more than 12 grilled specialties.
